Tour Information

From January 21 to February 1, 2010
Only $1,455 per person in double occupancy
Includes 12 days, 11 nights, and all ground transportation in Costa Rica; 20 meals and admissions to parks, lectures and slide shows.

  1. Day 1
    International travel day. Fly to Liberia, Costa Rica. Arrive in Costa Rica and proceed to the hotel, located on the Pacific Beach, for group introductions.
  2. Day 2
    North pacific day. Travel through the Pacific Lowlands to the mountain town of Monteverde, home of the Cloud Forest Reserve and International Children's Rainforest.
  3. Day 3
    Natural history day. Visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, depicted in a 1983 issue of the National Geographic. Tour the reserve with a professional naturalist guide. You'll take a walk to the continental divide where, on a clear day, you can see both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. During your walk you might also see the Resplendent Quetzal!
  4. Day 4
    The main highlight of the day is a visit to the Quaker community in Monteverde, established in 1951 by a group of Quakers from Fairhope Alabama, who came to Costa Rica to live a peaceful existence.
  5. Day 5
    Visit "Finca la Bella", located in the San Luis Valley. The farm is land tenure project that houses over a dozen families, each with approximately 1 acre of land, the majority of which is planted in coffee. A local farmer will meet the group, show us his coffee plantation and show us his land accompanied by a talk about the farming history of the valley and land tenure issues in rural communities in Costa Rica.
  6. Day 6
    Depart Montevede driving through dairy farms and coffee plantations and enjoy breathtaking mountain views of the pacific coast and the world famous active Arenal Volcano. In the afternoon we will visit thermal hot water springs, nested at the base of the active Arenal Volcano, surrounded by lush botanical gardens.
  7. Day 7
    Enjoy a riverboat tour along the Sarapiquí River. With the possibility of seeing dozens of species of birds and animals. Participate in a guided tour of a pineapple plantation that exports pineapples worldwide.
  8. Day 8
    Caribbean day. We'll travel along a highway surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation and a palm lined coast to the Atlantic town of Cahuita.
  9. Day 9
    Enjoy a free day at the beach, or take an optional trip to a Bri Bri Indigenous Reserve, an iguana farm and ride a dugout canoe into Panama!
  10. Day 10
    Have a relaxing morning at the beach. We'll return to San José, in the afternoon where you spent your first few nights in Costa Rica.
  11. Day 11
    Historical, cultural and world peace day. Visit the United Nations University for Peace, situated on international territory, in the heart of Costa Rica's breathtaking agricultural countryside. Enjoy a cultural and historical city tour of the capitol, San José, and a visit to one of the cities beautiful museums.
  12. Day 12
    Good old USA day!
